iRCT Tuning Notes
1. Perfect 12th tuning is not always the best choice.
2. Consider OTS 3 for Asian and European pianos.
3. Consider OTS 4 for American pianos.
4. Consider OTS 5 for Baldwin, Mason Hamlin, and Steinway pianos.
5. iRCT does not allow you to use previously recorded tuning files to recalculate to another tuning style. It is only possible using the most recently calculated tuning.

Manufacturers Notes
1. Boston: Verticals and grands designed by Steinway. Introduced in 1992. Manufactured by Kawai to Steinway specs.
2. Essex: Verticals and grands designed by Steinway. Introduced in 2000. Manufactured by Young Chang, Pearl River to Steinway specs.
3. Fridolin: Verticals and grands designed by Schimmel. Introduced in 2010. Currently manufactured by Pearl River to Schimmel specs.
4. Steinway Verdigris: 1900–1940. Action parts were dipped in paraffin oil to reduce friction and preserve wood. Noted by presence of green sludge and binding action centers. Consider using FANTISTIK household cleaner.
5. Steinway Teflon Bushings: 1962–1982. New York grands used them, Hamburg did not. Noticeable by presence of squeaking centers or clicking. Not a concern if no symptoms.
6. Steinway Hamburg Grands: Rounded arms, mahogany inner rims, hard pressed hammers, Renner actions, glossy polyester finishes.
7. Steinway New York Grands: Squared arms, black inner rims, soft hammers–lacquered, Steinway actions, satin finishes.
8. Yamaha Ivorite Keys: 1980–1990. Imitation ivory mainly seen on C3 and some larger grands. Noted by yellowed and browned stains that cannot be removed. Typically affects entire keyboard.
9. Yamaha Grey Market Pianos: Grey market pianos were seasoned with a 10-12 percent moisture content and were intended for the Japanese market. Yamaha pianos intended for North America are seasoned at a 4-6 percent moisture content. Grey market pianos typically have two pedals. There is no market for used pianos in Japan. The used Yamaha pianos originally intended for Japan get shipped to the United States. It's possible that the structural integrity of a Yamaha grey market piano could be threatened as wooden parts lose moisture and dry out in the lower humidity climate of the United States. Yamaha's warnings may be exaggerated about grey market pianos. Thousands have been sold without evidence of an epidemic of problems with them, especially when placed in moderate climates such as San Diego. Yamaha does not provide any warranty, parts or service for grey market pianos. Enter the serial number on the Yamaha website to determine if it's a grey market piano.
10. Young Chang, Weber, Wurlitzer, PianoDisc, Cline Expanding Action Brackets: 1990–1994. Expanding action brackets on grand pianos due to unstable alloy mix. Symptoms include blocking hammers, unstable regulation, excessive spread (normal is 112.5 mm to 113.5 mm), loose let-off dowels (over adjusted), checking problems, slow or no una corda shift. Brackets can be crumbly and cracks may be evident.
